Claudette Ménard

Claudette Ménard was the eighth of nine children who lived with Aristide Ménard and Léa Lalonde on Prieur Street in Montréal-Nord.
After completing high school at the convent, she first worked as a nurse, notably at the Institut Albert-Prévost and for the City of Montreal, where she was an active member of her profession’s union.
During this time, Claudette studied law at the Université de Montréal to fulfill her ambition of becoming a disciple of Themis. She practiced law at the Legal Aid office in Sainte-Agathe, then in Saint-Jérôme, before returning to school once more to complete a Master’s degree in Health Law at the Université de Sherbrooke. This allowed her to combine her two careers by becoming the legal advisor for the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec, a position she held for many years.
Socially involved, particularly in the area of housing rights, Claudette founded La Chaumière des Monts in Sainte-Agathe, a non-profit organization that enabled the construction of an apartment building for families, seniors, and low-income households. She also chaired the Association des locataires du Village olympique, notably spearheading civil actions that resulted in compensation for damages suffered by hundreds of residents of this vast and famous heritage real estate complex.

A lover of the outdoors, swimming, sailing, and golf, and an epicurean who appreciated good food and fine wine, she particularly enjoyed good conversation and laughter. Passing away on the eve of her 92nd birthday, Claudette Ménard had a beautiful, long, and full life.

According to her wishes, there will be no public ceremony.

She is survived by her sister Thérèse, her nephews and nieces, as well as her many friends.
